Blood Donation Policy among Men who have Sex with Men (MSM)

While often an overlooked issue in mainstream healthcare policy debates, the current and former policies instituted by the U.S. Federal Government around blood donation by men who have sex with men (MSM) greatly reduce the amount of blood available for transfusions. This is done based on erroneous risk assessments far outweighed by the potential benefits. Many organizations have called for the abolition of this policy, and here I present the case that it must be abolished.
